Shenandoah Therapy Group was founded by Bart Gibson, a licensed clinical social worker, US Army Veteran, foster and adoptive father to eight sons, and a father to a daughter living with profound level 3 autism.
Before entering his home, each of his sons came from CPS-involved situations marked by abuse, neglect, and significant trauma. Many of them carried complex diagnoses, including severe ADHD and other behavioral and emotional challenges. Parenting through layered trauma, attachment disruption, and neurodevelopmental disorders has not only shaped his family but also profoundly influenced his clinical perspective.
His daughter's profound autism, which necessitates substantial support, has further deepened his understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders, systems navigation, advocacy, and the daily realities families encounter beyond diagnostic labels.
These lived experiences, coupled with his formal training in evidence-based practice, provide a unique perspective that integrates structured clinical rigor with practical, real-world insights into trauma, attachment disruption, and the complexities of neurodevelopmental differences.
Bart Gibson approaches therapy with the firm belief that resilience can be nurtured, skills can be developed, and families deserve both competence and compassion from the professionals who serve them.
